Okay, the Chattacon XXV (2000) photos are finally going online - all four-and-a-half rolls of them. I apologize for the delays, but they were primarily financial in nature. Hey, this is a sub-shoestring magazine, and getting things like this done right takes money. That means I had to wait longer than I wanted to before getting the developing done. Thankfully, Wolf Camera came through for me, developing and scanning all the film within two hours. Unfortunately, the quality is lower than I'd expected - I don't know whether it's Wolf's scanning process or the APS film, but a lot of the photos came out really grainy. I've tried to correct for that when possible, though.
I've gotten permission from some of my Chattacon XXIII (1998) models to scan and post their photos in addition to the few photos from that set which are already online, and now that I finally have a scanner, a small 1998 index is up. I'd still like to get consent to post some of the rest of that set....
By the way, I've changed the navigation scheme around this year. Last year, I gave every model her own page, and stuck the photos chronologically on that page. Well, that just wasn't feasible this year. In addition to getting a few more group photos, I've realized that the larger image size would mean outlandish download times if I followed the same "one page to a model" scheme. So, I've given each photo its own page, and included multiple navigation schemes at the bottom as appropriate. The main table below links to the first photo (chronologically) featuring the named model. In some cases, that's a group shot. (Amber and Sherry are a prime example, as they were virtually inseparable for most of the convention.) In most cases, it's a solo pose. On models who are featured more than once in the archive, there are Previous and Next links to their other photos. On models who are in the 1999 archive, the first 2000 photo links back to their 1999 page (much as the 1999 pages link back to the 1 998 pages). On all the photo pages, though, there's a "Tour" navigation option. This is chronological order, where you can follow me from Friday night through Sunday morning and see the convention unfold. Or, for the more temporally warped, you can start at the end and work your way back. (Some of the comments on various pages are meant to be read in "tour" sequence.)
As a brief statistical analysis, the numbers for this year break down as follows. I took 114 photos across five rolls of film, featuring 77 different, identifiable people (mostly women) - 79 if you count the two masked guys in one photo, and 80 counting the kid with Anastasia in her first photo this year. Of those, four models in three photos denied posting permission, and the seven photos that I couldn't use wiped out two more models - bringing the identified number down to 70, including myself, in 104 shots. Compare that to 31 people last year, in 44 different photos - again including myself. This is a huge (if fun) job for one guy, especially with the rest of the magazine to maintain. (Speaking of which, I'm still transcribing the Bruce Sterling interview. I want to make sure to do it justice, which again means allocating the proper amount of time and effort.)
Anyway, after you finish browsing through this archive, I invite you to take a look at the rest of the zine. We're now entering our fourth (calendar) year of publication, and every article we've ever printed is still online. Just use the navigation menu below to hit the various sections.
