Well, the photos are back at last...mostly. You may remember how grainy the shots came out last year, so this year I planned ahead. See, I was kind of screwed last year in that I didn't have a set of prints that I could scan from, so Wolf's overscanning left me without a good alternative. This time, I went to Wal-Mart. Yes, Wal-Mart...and when the first three rolls came back, I was very happy with the results. Unfortunately, I have to ruin an otherwise sterling appraisal by recounting their treatment of the fourth (and final) roll. See, that one wasn't full by the end of the convention, so I sent the first three to be developed while I finished exposing it. So far, so good; I dropped the fourth roll off with every expectation that the results would match the other three. Well, without going into gory detail, let's just note that I had to send the roll back three times (at three to four days each) before they got it right. Still, I'd rather have good results that take a while than bad results that are back in an hour....
Well, enough bad news. The good news is that the pictures turned out very well overall, and most of those that were "off" in some way were easily fixed. I only had to ditch four shots, and only one of those was the only exposure I had of that model. (Sorry, X.) I think I'm finally getting the hang of this. I also want to give props (did I just say that?) to Handspring, makers of the Visor Deluxe handheld that served me so well this year, as well as thinkingBytes, authors of the ThinkDB program that I used to keep the database, and QRT, authors of the QED/QEX word processing package that made it so easy to add comments to the master file. It's much easier to take notes on a palmtop concerning images on a PC than it is to keep flipping back and forth between windows, so this really helped me get things rolling. Anyway, on to the photos! Same setup as last year, w ith a couple of enhancements....
