The War (?) on Drugs

Part 1

As you have probably surmised, I bitch a lot! I have found a new subject to level my acidic gaze upon. The supposed War on Drugs. Sounds awfully impressive, doesn't it? Sounds like a bunch of horse shit to me!

Let's wear the hat of a teacher for a moment. A "war" is a violent action in which two or more armed forces fight each other to reach certain goals. A direct result of this is the deaths of many soldiers from each side. This is a very rudimentary definition of the word "war", but it will suffice for this discussion.

OK, in this "war" there are two aggressor forces: the U.S. government and the Drug Cartels. Now the drug cartels are shipping their drugs into the U.S. What does the government do about it? They whine, bitch, and punish innocent American citizens. They don't bother to do anything to the cartels, so they continue to do as they please. And who pays for all of this wasted time, money, and freedom? We do! The American public foots the bill for all of it. The American public and the police are also the only people dying in this "war." It seems to me that the Government should just drop the official-sounding bullshit and just get on with killing civilians wholesale. At least it would be the truth, instead of lying about a "war" that quite frankly doesn't exist.

As if that isn't bad enough, the government then uses this "war" to take away all our constitutional rights. It's like "Hey, the drug dealers use guns, so let's use that to take away the guns of law-abiding citizens." Or, "You know, drug dealers use houses to sell their drugs out of so let's conduct illegal search and seizures in the homes of law-abiding citizens." Even, "You know drug dealers use phones to do business, so let's illegally wiretap all the civilian phones in the U.S."

Then, of course, you have the police forces around the country. They are undermanned, outgunned, under financed, and simply outmatched. The police are in a very complicated position in this debacle. On the one side you have the government, who continues to cut their financing and manpower. Then legally restrict what the police are capable of doing.

Then you have the drug cartels who are constantly undermining the police. They are also importing drugs, blackmailing companies, and killing people whenever they wish. Mind you, the police do want to stop this, but because of the mess we call a "judicial system" they are sadly unable to act.

Finally, you have the general populace who are demanding that the police protect them. Then when the police are kept from doing their jobs because of all the restrictions placed on them by the government, the same populace damns them for their inaction.

Now, I can see the dilemma that the police are involved in. No matter what they do, they are viewed as the bad guys. It has gotten to the point in this country that the criminals have more rights than the law-abiding citizens. To top it all off, the media is going around convincing people that the police (and certain social and economic groups) are to blame for all of the problems in this country. Bullshit! These people are not to blame for the aforementioned problems!! If you come back and read part two of this lesson, I'll tell you exactly who is to blame.

So, if I haven't offended anyone with this little smidgen of hatred wait until the next installment. Until then, Good day and happy hating!

If you missed it, last issue's lesson is still available.
