Gun Control Lunacy

On to business - Gun Control and all the shit that surrounds it. First off I would like to state that I am a Texan. In Texas we love our firearms and frankly more than one career politician has lost their lucrative lifelong job sitting on their ass in Washington over this issue. I am talking about Jack Brooks, of course. 40 some odd years is more than enough for that do-nothing bleeding-heart who had totally lost touch with his constituents. Anyway that is another rant entirely. Back to guns...

I hear all sorts of crap from the whiny asses out there that say concealed handgun legislation is like turning society back into the wild wild west. Spare Me! These are the same idiots that actually believe we can get the guns off the streets. The ones that spout all the bullshit rhetoric for the masses about how we can just round up the millions of guns out there and all will be just wonderful. Look at New York for example, making it illegal to own any guns has really done wonders for their murder rate hasn't it? All of this legislation and proposed legislation to revoke the citizens right to own firearms serves only to put a band-aid on the problem at hand. A band-aid that is not going to last long at all. Actually it is like one of those really cutesy Disney band-aids with the Little Mermaid on it. It looks really good, but basically it is overpriced and not doing a damn thing to "heal" the problem beneath it.

Wanna know how to fix it? Put the little bastards in jail that go around killing people with their illegally concealed and illegally owned handguns. A friend of mine had the best suggestion I have heard to date:

Let's put all those little gang banging bastards in one building, like the Alamodome or Astrodome and let them have a free-for-all with their little weapons. When the last one is standing, send his ass to prison and round up all the goddamn handguns from the floor.

Imagine if this were implemented on a national level. We could do away with the gun problem and the gang problem all at one time! Simple, isn't it?

People are constantly talking about Texas's concealed handgun legislation. They are outraged by it. Of course all they really know about the issue is what is fed to them by the liberal media. Before concealed handgun legislation was passed in Texas, it was perfectly legal to carry a loaded handgun with you in your car or on your person as long as you were traveling across the county line. Well needless to say, anyone stopped and found with a handgun simply had to tell the officer that they were on their way to somewhere out of county or on their way home from somewhere out of county. Thus it was almost impossible to actually control who was carrying them and for what purpose.

The new legislation has made it illegal to carry a concealed handgun without a license. It is also impossible to get one of these licenses if you have a criminal record or any other number of issues which would make you unqualified to carry a handgun. To get a permit one must take classes on the proper usage and safety of handguns as well as a test to determine if they can actually shoot the damn things with an acceptable degree of accuracy. Since the new laws have gone into affect, being caught with a handgun on your person or in your car without a permit to carry it results in immediate arrest and a huge fine.

I believe that all states should pass similar legislation. The reality is the guns are out there and most people who have them mean only to protect themselves, their property, and most importantly their families. Perhaps Congress should concentrate more on actually punishing criminals than punishing citizens. Passing legislation to take a person's right to own a firearm away is not only unconstitutional, it is simply stupidity.

If you missed it, last issue's reality break is still available.
